However, not all climbers are ready or willing to tackle the highest and most difficult peaks. For those who seek a more moderate but still rewarding adventure, there are plenty of peaks in the range of 7000 to 8000 meters that offer stunning views, diverse terrain, and a sense of achievement.
We will highlight some of the best 7000 to 8000 m expeditions in Pakistan, based on their popularity, accessibility, difficulty, and scenery. These expeditions are suitable for climbers who have some experience in high-altitude trekking and basic mountaineering skills, but do not require advanced technical skills or equipment. Of course, every expedition requires proper planning, preparation, and guidance, and climbers should always respect the local culture, environment, and regulations.
Spantik Peak (7,027 m)
Spantik Peak is one of the ideal 7000 m peaks in the heart of the Karakoram, located near the Spantik Base Camp. It is a relatively easy and straightforward climb, with a moderate slope and no major obstacles. The peak offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, including K2, Broad Peak, Rakaposhi, Spantik, and Nanga Parbat. The expedition starts from Skardu, and follows the Chogolungma Glacier to the Spantik Base Camp, where the base camp is established. The ascent and descent can be done in two or three days, depending on the weather and acclimatization. The total duration of the expedition is about 28 days.
Diran Peak (7,266 m)
Diran Peak is a striking and beautiful peak in the Nagar Valley of the Karakoram, known for its pyramid shape and snowy face. It is considered one of the most dangerous peaks in the world, due to its frequent avalanches and rock falls. The peak has several routes, varying in difficulty and length. The most popular and easiest route is the northwest ridge, which can be climbed in alpine style in three or four days from the base camp. The peak offers a breathtaking view of the Nagar Valley and the nearby peaks, such as Rakaposhi, Hunza Peak, and Ultar Sar. The expedition starts from Gilgit, and follows the Minapin Glacier to the base camp, which can be reached in about a week. The total duration of the expedition is about 25 days
