I trekked to K2 Base Camp as a solo female. The biggest concern was safety. The reality: Pakistan's mountains are among the safest for solo female travelers—if you plan well.

I especially enjoyed Day 1-3: Skardu, Askole, K2 Base Camp: Standing at the foot of K2, and Bring sanitary products (limited in remote areas).

I came to Pakistan's mountains as a solo trekker and walked away as a mountain woman. K2 is achievable for women. The Balti men are protective, the porters are respectful, the mountains are safe. Don't let fear stop you.

Three weeks of my life I will never forget. Started from Askole, trekked through the Biafo Glacier, crossed the Gondogoro River multiple times, and finally reached Concordia—the throne room of the gods. K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrums all visible in one panorama. Our guide Ali from Skardu and the cook team made camp life surprisingly comfortable—fresh chapattis, daal, and even pasta every night. The weather window opened perfectly for the trek to K2 BC itself. Standing at the foot of K2 was humbling beyond description. The trek is tough: long days on glacier moraine, tricky stream crossings, and altitude sickness hits hard above 5,000m. Training for at least six months beforehand is essential. Porters are absolute legends. Go with a reputable company and proper permits.

Done this as an extension after our K2 Base Camp trek. From Concordia, we took two days to reach Gondogoro La base camp at 5,200m. Weather window opened beautifully on day three. Crossing Gondogoro La at 5,585m was the most technically challenging and most rewarding day of my trekking life. Steep snow and ice slopes, fixed ropes on the summit ridge, and then the drop down to the Gondogoro Glacier on the other side. We reached Hushe village four days later—celebrating in the village with apricot juice and dancing. This trek combines the best of the Karakoram: views of K2, Broad Peak, the Gasherbrums, Masherbrum, and Laila Peak. Requires mountaineering experience with crampons and ice axe. Not for beginners, but absolutely life-changing for those qualified.
