Ground handling is the part of a Pakistan itinerary that decides whether a trip runs smoothly or not. It is also the part that cannot be done properly from another country. Vertical Explorers is a local operator with offices in Skardu and Islamabad, and this page sets out exactly what we handle and how.
Airport and city transfers in Islamabad, Skardu, Gilgit and Lahore, including arrivals and departures that need to line up with connecting flights or road transfers.
Road travel on the Karakoram Highway and into the mountain valleys, Islamabad to Skardu, Skardu to Hunza and Ghizer, and routes into Chitral and Swat. Multi-day vehicle hire for touring parties is available.
Hotels and guest accommodation in cities, valley bases and at trailheads, booked on a single basis for the whole group where possible so the group moves together.
Arranged as part of the operation for the regions that require them, with clients told what they personally need to carry.
City and regional guides for touring programmes, and high-altitude guides for treks and climbs.
Equipment and supplies arranged locally where that is more practical than carrying them in from abroad.
Our strongest coverage is Gilgit-Baltistan and the northern areas, plus Chitral, Kalash and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. For itineraries that also include Lahore or Islamabad we handle the ground arrangements there as well.
Mountain roads in the northern areas are affected by weather, landslides and seasonal conditions. A nominal five-hour drive can become ten hours, and a pass can close for a day. We plan itineraries with buffers rather than promising fixed journey times, and we will tell you honestly where a day is tight so you can brief clients accurately.
For clients on the ground, our seasonal guidance explains which windows suit which regions.
Trailhead transfers, porter and pack animal coordination, camp logistics and resupply are covered in detail under trekking and expedition logistics, and vehicle and local services under transport and local services.
Entry formalities are set by Pakistani authorities and depend on nationality. Partners should brief clients early using current official guidance; our visa information page is the traveller-facing summary we publish.
We do not publish vehicle fleet sizes, response-time promises or partner logos. Our fleet and our working relationships are things we will describe accurately on a call or a site visit, not as unverifiable claims on a web page.
